How to access your TD Ameritrade account

desktopLog in using your Scottrade® account number as your UserID and your existing Scottrade® password. For your convenience, we’ve prepared a tutorial to help you get started on our website. You may be prompted to verify your existing security questions. The answers to these security questions will not change from what you have set up at Scottrade.
mobile-devicesMobile app users, please go to the app store and download the latest available version of the TD Ameritrade app on iOS (iPhone + iPad) or Android Phone. After downloading the app, you can log in using your Scottrade® account number and existing Scottrade® password. The mobile PIN or Passkey that you may have used at Scottrade cannot be used at TD Ameritrade. If you need assistance logging in, see "Log-In help: former Scottrade users" on the app login page.

To access account specific information, enter your new TD Ameritrade account number and old Scottrade® PIN. (To retrieve your new TD Ameritrade account number, please log in to your account using your old Scottrade® account number and password. Then go to Client Services> My Profile> and click on Personal Information.)

Additional items to keep in mind

  • On February 17, 2018, Scottrade Bank® accounts were closed. Your bank account balance has either been placed in your Scottrade brokerage account or sent to you as a check. All brokerage account balances have been transferred to your new TD Ameritrade brokerage account.
  • Any advanced orders (One Cancels Other and One Cancels All) and conditional orders were canceled within your Scottrade account on February 23. Any open advanced orders did not transfer to TD Ameritrade. You can enter these orders in your TD Ameritrade account.
  • If you had checks or debit cards for your Scottrade® account, or Scottrade Bank® account, and used them at least once in the last two years, you’ll be receiving a new set of TD Ameritrade checks and a new TD Ameritrade debit card. If you do not receive your new checks or cards by March 12, please let us know.

If you had bill pay, you will need to enroll in the TD Ameritrade Online Bill Pay once you log in to your new TD Ameritrade account. You'll also need to set up all bill pay payees.

Direct Deposit
Sign Up
To update or sign up for direct deposit, provide the TD Ameritrade routing number (021912915) and your TD Ameritrade account number to either your employer or outside bank. There is no action to take within your TD Ameritrade account. (To retrieve your new TD Ameritrade account number, please log in to your account online using your old Scottrade® account number and password. Then go to Client Services > My Profile > and click on Personal Information.) Remember to continue to use your old Scottrade® account number and password to log in to our website.

Ways to deposit to your TD Ameritrade account

OPTION 1

Log in to your TD Ameritrade account and set up your bank. This will enable you to move funds electronically.

  • Go to My Account > Deposits & Transfers > Account/Bank Connections and click on the new connection button.
  • You’ll need your account number and your bank’s routing number, which can be found at the bottom of your checks (the setup page will help you find this information on your checks).
  • Note: ACH instructions for your brokerage account were converted over to TD Ameritrade.

Contact the bank from which you’d like to transfer funds and provide our routing number (021912915) and your new TD Ameritrade brokerage account number.

OPTION 3 OR

For Direct Deposit, contact your employer and provide our routing number (021912915) and your new TD Ameritrade brokerage account number.

NOTE: To find your new TD Ameritrade account number, log in to your account and go to Client Services > My Profile > Personal Information. Your account number will be listed under “Account Information”.

Check

Make your checks payable to TD Ameritrade, and include your new 9-digit TD Ameritrade account number (not the old Scottrade® account number you used to log in).

Using the TD Ameritrade mobile app is the easiest and fastest way to get your check deposited to your account. You’ll need to download the TD Ameritrade mobile app and log in to your account. Go to “More” then “Deposit Check”.

If you don’t have access to mobile check deposit, you can mail checks to TD Ameritrade, Inc. PO Box 2229, Omaha, NE 68103-2717.

Your Account Statements and Trade Confirmations

  • You’ll receive the following two account statements for February 2018:
    1. An account statement from TD Ameritrade Clearing, showing your assets that were transferred to your new account at TD Ameritrade, and any post-transfer transaction history. This statement will arrive first.
    2. An account statement from Scottrade, showing zero balances and positions (since all assets will have been transferred to TD Ameritrade).
  • You may receive two statements for several months post transition if there is residual activity at Scottrade, such as dividend or interest payments that post to your legacy Scottrade® account. These payments will sweep to your TD Ameritrade account automatically.
  • Going forward, you’ll receive your account statements and a summary of your trade confirmations the same way (by mail or electronically) and with the same frequency as you did previously. To help familiarize you with your new account statements, here’s a Statement Guide.

Tax forms and reporting

  • 2017 tax documents will be delivered by Scottrade. Depending on when you had reportable contributions to your account, you may receive two Form 5498s for all 2017 activity.
  • Historical tax documents will be available in the TD Ameritrade Tax Center for up to 7 years.
  • 2018 cost basis – you’ll see open lot cost basis information as well as historical realized gains and losses online on the Gain/Loss page.

What's happening right now?

The transition is complete. You can log in to your TD Ameritrade account using your old Scottrade® account number and password.

What can I expect as a TD Ameritrade client?

As a TD Ameritrade client, you'll benefit from a rich investing and education experience, including:

  • Award-winning2 trading platforms and mobile trading apps.
  • Diverse trading products, such as complex options strategies, futures and foreign exchange (for qualified clients).
  • Investment guidance and advice, such as free goal planning services, access to a robo advisory service and managed portfolios.3
  • Investor education offerings, including webcasts, classroom learning, simulated trading platform and online coaching.

Is my account now considered a TD Ameritrade account?

Yes. The transition of your Scottrade Brokerage accounts to TD Ameritrade is complete.

Will I receive new account numbers and/or new login information for my TD Ameritrade account?

Your TD Ameritrade account has a different account number than your old Scottrade® brokerage account. To retrieve your new TD Ameritrade account number, please log in to your account using your old Scottrade® account number and password. Then go to Client Services > My Profile > and click on Personal Information.

The information you use to log in to your account(s) online remains the same. Continue to use your old Scottrade® account number and password to access your TD Ameritrade account.

How do I log in to my TD Ameritrade account on the mobile app after the transition? Where can I get the TD Ameritrade Mobile app?

First, please go to the app store and download the latest version of the TD Ameritrade app on iOS (iPhone + iPad) or Android Phone. Then log in using your old Scottrade® account number and old Scottrade® password. You cannot use the mobile passkey (PIN) that you may have used at Scottrade since that did not transfer with your account. If you need any assistance logging in on the TD Ameritrade mobile app, tap “Log-In help: former Scottrade users” on the log-in screen after you download and launch the app.

Can I still access and trade on the Scottrade Client Website, Scottrade Streaming Quotes, ScottradeElite, or Scottrade Mobile now that my account has transitioned to TD Ameritrade?

No. You no longer have access to Scottrade trading platforms. Instead, you should begin using TD Ameritrade's award-winning3 trading platforms and tools optimized for any level of experience - from the beginner investor to the most advanced trader:

  • TD Ameritrade Website: Our web platform has the tools and resources you need to invest with confidence. Everything is in one place, so you can manage your portfolio more efficiently.
  • thinkorswim: Get elite-level trading tools and powerful resources with thinkorswim. Trade equities, options, futures, and forex on your own personal trading platform, powered by insights and education to help you learn and implement even the most complex strategies and techniques. You can also practice your trading strategies in a virtual trading environment using paperMoney.
  • TD Ameritrade Mobile: The TD Ameritrade Mobile app provides you everything you need to manage your account and place trades. This is a great companion app to the TD Ameritrade website.
  • TD Ameritrade Mobile Trader: The TD Ameritrade Mobile Trader app allows you to trade stocks, ETFs, multiple-leg option strategies, futures, options on futures, and forex (in an appropriately approved account). Once the transition is completed will I need to update my Quicken settings?

Yes, in order to connect Quicken to your TD Ameritrade account, you’ll need to update your settings on or after February 26, 2018. Simply click below for step-by-step instructions.

What about pricing and trade commissions - are there any changes?

No. As always, our goal is to deliver great value to all of our clients. That means no changes to our low commission rates. Clients will continue to benefit from our $6.95 base commission rate for online equities.

How do I set up 24/5 trading?

Log in to your TD Ameritrade account and click on “Client Services”. Then go to “My Profile” and under the “Elections & routing” section, click “Upgrade” to the right of the “Advanced Features” row. You’ll be asked to accept the terms and conditions for your upgraded account features. To place an extended overnight order, log in to thinkorswim or the Mobile Trader app (be sure to download the app first) and select EXTO. Trading after normal hours comes with unique and additional risks such as lower liquidity and higher price volatility. Your order may be only partially executed or not at all. Learn more.

What should I do if I cannot remember my Scottrade User ID or Password?

You can reset your user ID and password online at invest.ameritrade.com.

What happens to accounts I had linked at Scottrade?

If you had linked accounts that share the same Social Security number, your accounts are now linked at TD Ameritrade. If you had linked accounts that did not share the same Social Security number, and you accepted the new TD Ameritrade linking agreement, your accounts are now linked at TD Ameritrade. If you did not accept the linking agreement, you can still link your accounts online at TD Ameritrade.

Can I access past Scottrade® statements and tax documents?

Yes, TD Ameritrade will store up to 10 years of Scottrade® statements and 7 years of tax documents online.

Did my watch lists transfer to TD Ameritrade?

Yes, any watch lists you had set up at Scottrade have moved to TD Ameritrade. There's nothing you need to do.

What happens to my tax-lot depletion method?

At Scottrade, the default tax-lot depletion method was First-in, first-out (“FIFO”). If you did not specifically ask for a different strategy, your account will continue with FIFO at TD Ameritrade.

  • If you requested Last-in, first-out (“LIFO”), average cost, highest cost, or Minimum Tax depletion method, your tax-lot depletion strategy will continue with your selection.
  • To make changes to your tax-lot depletion method, please log in to your TD Ameritrade account.

What's in this for existing TD Ameritrade clients?

TD Ameritrade clients will not experience any changes. They do, however, benefit from gaining access to hundreds of additional branches. More branches mean more access to in-person service and support such as education, goal planning and investment guidance - all of which are growing increasingly popular among retail investors.

Can I now go into any TD Ameritrade branch?

Yes. All TD Ameritrade branches, including hundreds of former Scottrade branches, are now available to service your needs. Find a branch near you.

Did all of the Scottrade branches remain open?

Scottrade branches have become TD Ameritrade branches. During this process, however, some branches were combined or closed depending upon their location. The overall TD Ameritrade branch network now includes 364 around the country. Find a branch near you.

What type of platforms, products and applications does TD Ameritrade have?

TD Ameritrade has a multitude of platforms, products and applications to accommodate clients every step of the way in their investing and trading journey. Please log in to your new TD Ameritrade account and visit the Welcome Center to learn more.

What happened to the Flexible Reinvestment Program (FRIP)?

TD Ameritrade's Dividend Reinvestment Program (DRIP) is now available to you in place of FRIP. With DRIP, you'll be able to reinvest your cash dividends by purchasing additional shares or fractional shares automatically when the dividend posts to your account. Eligible securities include over 5,000 U.S. listed and NASDAQ stocks, as well as most American Depository Receipts (ADRs).

How do I enroll in TD Ameritrade’s Dividend Reinvestment Program?

Log in to your TD Ameritrade account and go to the Dividend Reinvestment section under My Account.

Under Stock & ETF Dividends or Mutual Fund Distributions, you'll see which of the securities you hold are eligible for DRIP, and you can automatically enroll some or all of the eligible securities you hold, as well as all future stock purchases.

I had a Scottrade Bank® account - what happened to my money?

Scottrade Bank® was acquired by TD Bank, N.A. Now that the transition is complete, your funds have either been placed in your TD Ameritrade brokerage account or a check was mailed to you. New checks and debit cards have been reissued for your account. If you have not received your new cards or checks by March 12, please let us know.

I had pre-authorized payments set up in my Scottrade Bank® account. Do I need to reset the automated payments in my TD Ameritrade account?

Yes, you will need to set these payments up again since they were not transferred.

How do I know if my new TD Ameritrade brokerage account is eligible for cash management services?

All individual and joint TD Ameritrade brokerage accounts are eligible for cash management services. However, some specific account types are ineligible, including but not limited to some retirement and foreign accounts.

If I had a debit card and checks with my Scottrade brokerage account, what can I expect with my TD Ameritrade brokerage account?

You should have already been reissued checks and debit cards for your TD Ameritrade brokerage account if you had them with your Scottrade brokerage account. If you have not received your new cards or checks by March 12, please let us know.

How do I establish cash management services in my new TD Ameritrade brokerage account?

Log in to your TD Ameritrade account, go to the My Account Tab and click on Online Cash Services. Once there, you can set up bill pay, sign up for debit cards, or order checks.

How do I set up direct deposit in my new TD Ameritrade brokerage account?

Arrangements for direct deposit need to be made with the issuer of your payments. Once you have your new TD Ameritrade brokerage account, simply contact the issuer of your direct deposit to change your direct deposit setup. Having the following information available will assist you with the new setup:

  • TD Ameritrade routing number (021912915)
  • Your new TD Ameritrade brokerage account number

Will I receive a final statement for my Scottrade Bank® account?

Yes. On or about February 28, 2018, you will be mailed your February 2018 final account statement. You’ll also be mailed an Account Transaction Summary, detailing all your transactions for January 2017 – February 2018. Please note that these statements will be mailed to you – even if you currently receive statements electronically.
