Thank you for your patience as we’ve worked to bring together Scottrade and TD Ameritrade. Your account will transfer to TD Ameritrade over the weekend of February 23 – 25. As a TD Ameritrade client, you’ll quickly discover that everything we offer – from guidance, to award-winning1 trading platforms, to retirement resources - is built to help you succeed. Plus, your commissions will remain the same. And you’ll continue to enjoy the same equity, options, and transaction fee mutual fund commission rates that you have now.

We’ve updated this Transition Hub to include everything you need to ensure a smooth transition - how to access your account, actions you may need to take, answers to questions you may have, and more. Plus, beginning February 19, a series of LIVE and on-demand webcasts will be available, covering popular tools and features of TD Ameritrade’s website, mobile apps, thinkorswim trading platform, and more.

What to expect over the transition weekend, February 23-25

Beginning at 4:15 p.m. ET on Friday and through the weekend, you won’t have access to your Scottrade® accounts as they transfer automatically to TD Ameritrade. Please contact us at 800-619-7283 if you need assistance during this time.

How to access your account at TD Ameritrade beginning February 26

You may be prompted to verify your existing security questions. The answers to these security questions will not change from what you have set up at Scottrade.

You won't be able to initiate any incoming or outgoing account transfers to or from your brokerage account. You can continue to initiate wires and write or deposit checks until 4:15 p.m. ET on February 23.

  • Cut-off time for placing equity trades will be 4 p.m. ET; cut-off for Option trades will be 4:15 p.m. ET.
  • As of 4:15 p.m. ET, Scottrade platforms will no longer be accessible.
  • Scottrade® forms and agreements will not be accepted after 5 p.m. ET. For TD Ameritrade forms and agreements, visit the form library.
  • You’ll receive paper confirmations for all trades placed on this date, even if you opted to receive electronic confirmations.
  • Any advanced orders (One Cancels Other and One Cancels All) and conditional orders will be canceled after market close on February 23. Any open advanced orders will not transfer to TD Ameritrade.

  • If you have checks or debit cards for your Scottrade® account, or Scottrade Bank® account, and used them at least once in the last two years, you’ll receive a new set of TD Ameritrade checks and a new TD Ameritrade debit card on or about this date. If you have not received your new checks or cards by March 12, please let us know.

Important actions you may need to take after your account transitions to TD Ameritrade

Re-enroll
Enroll in the TD Ameritrade Online Bill Pay service and set up payees. If you had bill pay, you will need to enroll in the TD Ameritrade Online Bill Pay once you log in to your new TD Ameritrade account. You'll also need to set up all the bill pay payees, so please make note of the payees you have set up on your Scottrade Bank® account.

Sign Up
To update or sign up for direct deposit, provide the TD Ameritrade routing number (021912915) and your TD Ameritrade account number to either your employer or outside bank. There is no action to take within your TD Ameritrade account. (To retrieve your new TD Ameritrade account number, please log in to your account online using your existing Scottrade® account number and password. Then go to Client Services> My Profile> and click on Personal Information). Remember to continue to use your existing Scottrade® account number and password to log in to our website.

Ways to deposit to your TD Ameritrade account

OPTION 1

Log in to your TD Ameritrade account and set up your bank. This will enable you to move funds electronically.

  • Go to My Account > Deposits & Transfers > Account/Bank Connections and click on the new connection button.
  • You’ll need your account number and your bank’s routing number, which can be found at the bottom of your checks (the setup page will help you find this information on your checks).
  • Note: ACH instructions for your brokerage account will be converted over to TD Ameritrade.

Contact the bank from which you’d like to make a withdrawal and provide our routing number (021912915) and your new TD Ameritrade brokerage account number.

OPTION 3 OR

For Direct Deposit, contact your employer and provide our routing number (021912915) and your new TD Ameritrade brokerage account number.

NOTE: To find your new TD Ameritrade account number, log in to your account and go to Client Services > My Profile > Personal Information. Your account number will be listed under “Account Information”.

Check

Make your checks payable to TD Ameritrade, and include your new 9-digit TD Ameritrade account number (not the Scottrade® account number you used to log in).

Using the TD Ameritrade mobile app is the easiest and fastest way to get your check deposited to your account. You’ll need to download the TD Ameritrade mobile app and log in to your account. Go to “More” then “Deposit Check”.

If you don’t have access to mobile check deposit, you can mail checks to TD Ameritrade, Inc. PO Box 2229, Omaha, NE 68103-2717.

Starting Feburary 26, you’ll have access to one of the largest branch networks of any online brokerage firm. Feel free to visit a nearby branch to sit down with a Financial Consultant and discuss your investing needs.

Your Account Statements and Trade Confirmations

  • You’ll receive the following two account statements for February 2018:
    1. An account statement from TD Ameritrade Clearing, showing your assets that were transferred to your new account at TD Ameritrade, and any post-transfer transaction history. This statement will arrive first.
    2. An account statement from Scottrade, showing zero balances and positions (since all assets will have been transferred to TD Ameritrade).
  • You may receive two statements for several months post transition if there is residual activity at Scottrade, such as dividend or interest payments that post to your legacy Scottrade® account. These payments will sweep to your TD Ameritrade account automatically.
  • Going forward, you’ll receive your account statements and a summary of your trade confirmations the same way (by mail or electronically) and with the same frequency as you do now. To help familiarize you with your new account statements, here’s a Statement Guide.

Tax forms and reporting

  • 2017 tax documents will be delivered by Scottrade. Depending on when you had reportable contributions to your account, you may receive two Form 5498s for all 2017 activity.
  • Historical tax documents will be available in the TD Ameritrade Tax Center for up to 7 years.
  • 2018 cost basis – you’ll see open lot cost basis information as well as historical realized gains and losses online on the Gain/Loss page beginning March 5.

What's happening right now?

On September 18, 2017, TD Ameritrade Holding Corporation’s purchase of Scottrade Financial Services, Inc. was completed. TD Ameritrade and Scottrade will continue to operate as two firms until Scottrade client accounts are transferred to TD Ameritrade. At this time, we are finalizing plans for the account transition which is scheduled to take place over the weekend of February 23-25, 2018. This Transition Hub includes information on what this means and the experience you can look forward to.

What can I expect during the transition ahead?

Scottrade is well known for outstanding client care – a credit to the culture that Founder Rodger Riney and thousands of Scottrade employees have built over the last 37 years. It's on us now to continue that tradition.

  • We're 100% focused on a smooth transition, paying special attention to the service clients receive today and making plans to enhance it further in the future.
  • Once your account transitions, you'll benefit from a richer investing and education experience, including:
    • Award-winning3 trading platforms and mobile trading apps.
    • More diverse trading products, such as complex options strategies, futures and foreign exchange (for qualified clients).
    • More investment guidance and advice, such as free goal planning services, access to a robo advisory service and managed portfolios.4
    • Deeper investor education offerings, including webcasts, classroom learning, simulated trading platform and online coaching.

Will my account become a TD Ameritrade account? When will this take place?

Yes. As part of the transition, Scottrade Brokerage accounts will become TD Ameritrade accounts. We expect the transition of client accounts to be completed over the weekend of February 23 – 25, 2018.

Will I receive new account numbers and/or new login information when my account transfers to TD Ameritrade?

All Scottrade client account numbers will change when accounts transition to TD Ameritrade. However, the information you use to log in to your account(s) will remain the same. Continue to use your Scottrade® Account number and existing Scottrade® password to access your TD Ameritrade account on February 26.

How do I log into my TD Ameritrade account on the mobile app after the transition? Where can I get the TD Ameritrade Mobile app?

First, please go to the app store and download the latest version of the TD Ameritrade app for iOS (iPhone + iPad) or Android Phone. Then, as of February 26, you can log in using your Scottrade® account number as your UserID - and your existing Scottrade® password. You cannot use the mobile passkey (PIN) that you may have used at Scottrade since that did not transfer with your account. If you need any assistance logging in on the TD Ameritrade mobile app, tap “Log-In help: former Scottrade users” on the log-in screen after you download and launch the app.

Should I continue to use my current account until the transition is completed?

Yes. Although we're one company, we'll continue to operate as two separate firms until the transition occurs. Please continue to use your Scottrade account just as you always have, with your same online platform, User ID and password.

Will I still be able to access and trade on the Scottrade Client Website, Scottrader Streaming Quotes, ScottradeElite, or Scottrade Mobile during my account transfer to TD Ameritrade?

No. Beginning February 23 at 4:15 p.m. ET, after we begin moving your account to TD Ameritrade, you’ll no longer have access to Scottrade trading platforms. On February 26, you will begin using TD Ameritrade’s award-winning trading platforms and tools optimized for any level of experience – from the beginner investor to the most advanced trader:

  • TD Ameritrade Website: Our web platform has the tools and resources you need to invest with confidence. Everything is in one place, so you can manage your portfolio more efficiently.
  • thinkorswim: Get elite-level trading tools and powerful resources with thinkorswim. Trade equities, options, futures, and forex on your own personal trading platform, powered by insights and education to help you learn and implement even the most complex strategies and techniques. You can also practice your trading strategies in a virtual trading environment using paperMoney.
  • TD Ameritrade Mobile: The TD Ameritrade Mobile app provides you everything you need to manage your account and place trades. This is a great companion app to the TD Ameritrade website.
  • TD Ameritrade Mobile Trader: The TD Ameritrade Mobile Trader app allows you to trade stocks, ETFs, multi-leg options strategies, futures, options on futures, and forex (in an appropriately approved account). Use real market data to test your theories and strategies at no cost with paperMoney. This is a great companion app to the thinkorswim platform.

Once the transition is completed will I need to update my Quicken settings?

Yes, in order to connect Quicken to your TD Ameritrade account, you’ll need to update your settings on or after February 26, 2018. Simply click below for step-by-step instructions.

What are your plans for pricing or trade commissions?

As always, our goal is to deliver great value to all of our clients. Right now, that means no changes to our low commission rates. Clients will continue to benefit from our $6.95 base commission rate for online equities. Negotiated commission rates will be honored at transition.

How do I set up 24/5 trading?

Beginning February 26, you can log in to your TD Ameritrade account and click on “Client Services”.  Then go to “My Profile” and under the “Elections & routing” section, click “Upgrade” to the right of the “Advanced Features” row. You’ll be asked to accept the terms and conditions for your upgraded account features. To place an extended over-night order, log in to thinkorswim or the Mobile Trader app (be sure to download the app first) and select EXTO. Trading after normal hours comes with unique and additional risks such as lower liquidity and higher price volatility. Your order may be only partially executed or not at all. Learn more.

What should I do if I cannot remember my Scottrade user ID, Password or PIN?

You will be able to reset your user ID and password online at invest.ameritrade.com.

What will happen to accounts I currently have linked at Scottrade?

If you have linked accounts that share the same Social Security number, your accounts will be linked after your account transitions to TD Ameritrade. If you have linked accounts that do not share the same Social Security number and you have accepted the new TD Ameritrade linking agreement, your accounts will be linked after your account transitions to TD Ameritrade. If you did not accept the linking agreement, you can still link your accounts online after your account transitions.

Will I be able to access past statements and tax documents?

Yes, TD Ameritrade will store up to 10 years of statements and 7 years of tax documents online.

Will my watch lists transfer to TD Ameritrade?

Yes, any watch lists you have set up at Scottrade will move over to TD Ameritrade. There’s nothing you need to do.

What will happen to my tax-lot depletion method?

At Scottrade, the default tax-lot depletion method is First-in, first-out (“FIFO”).  If you haven’t specifically asked for a different strategy, your account will continue with FIFO after it transitions to TD Ameritrade.

  • If you requested Last-in, first-out (“LIFO”), average cost, highest cost, or Minimum Tax depletion method, your tax-lot depletion strategy will continue with your selection after the integration.
  • If you requested Maximum Gain as your tax-lot depletion strategy, please log in to your account at Scottrade and complete the tax-lot depletion strategy action item in the TD Ameritrade Information Center (located at the top of your web page). If a tax strategy method is not selected for this account by February 16, 2018, then the account will default to the First-in, first-out (“FIFO”) method once it is moved to TD Ameritrade.

What if I have accounts at both TD Ameritrade and Scottrade?

Until Scottrade accounts transition in late February, continue to use each of your accounts just as you do today. Scottrade and TD Ameritrade will continue to serve you individually. You can link your accounts online after your Scottrade account transitions in late February.

What's in this for TD Ameritrade clients?

TD Ameritrade clients shouldn’t experience any changes. They will, however, benefit from the expansion of our geographic footprint. More branches mean more access to in-person service and support such as education, goal planning and investment guidance – all of which are growing increasingly popular among retail investors.

Can I go into any TD Ameritrade branch and service my Scottrade account?

Not at this time. TD Ameritrade and Scottrade will continue to operate as separate firms until the transition of accounts is complete on February 26.

Until that time, Scottrade branches will only be able to support Scottrade clients, and TD Ameritrade branches will only be able to support TD Ameritrade clients.

Will all Scottrade branches remain open?

No. While more than 250 Scottrade branches will eventually transition to become TD Ameritrade branches, several will not. Soon, the TD Ameritrade branch network will number more than 360 around the country.

Will I continue to work with the same Investment Consultant as I do now?

For now, your relationship with your Investment Consultant remains the same. We will retain a significant portion of Scottrade’s locations and Investment Consultants. We intend to be both a high-tech and right-touch company, and a vast branch network gives our clients more opportunities to decide how and when they want to interact with us.

What type of platforms, products and applications does TD Ameritrade have?

TD Ameritrade has a multitude of platforms, products and applications to accommodate clients every step of the way in their investing and trading journey. We’ve been providing additional information, education and resources as the transition has progressed, through emails and on this Hub.

Can you tell me more about TD Ameritrade?

Will anything change with my Scottrade brokerage, Scottrade Investment Management or ScottradePRO accounts?

We have been working hard to plan for and communicate the upcoming changes to these accounts.

  • For brokerage and Scottrade Investment Management accounts, no changes will be made until all accounts transfer to TD Ameritrade over the weekend of February 23 - 25. Until then, we'll continue to operate as separate firms. That means you'll have the same account with the same access to the platforms you have always enjoyed until that time. When your account transfers, you will even be able to use your existing Scottrade login credentials to access your TD Ameritrade account.
  • ScottradePRO clients have received communications providing details about opening accounts at TD Ameritrade and the benefits they'll receive for doing so.
  • TD Ameritrade is committed to keeping all clients informed of changes that impact them and their accounts and has communications planned to inform, educate and help clients each step of the way.

I have a Scottrade Bank account – what will happen to my account?

Scottrade Bank was acquired by TD Bank, N.A. and moving forward all bank services will be provided by TD Bank, N.A. You should continue to use your Scottrade Bank account as you do now. You can continue to use your checks and your ATM/debit card and make deposits in the same way you do today. There are no changes you need to worry about. If I'm in the process of transferring my account to Scottrade, does this announcement impact me?

No. It will not impact the transfer of your account to Scottrade.

What will happen to the Flexible Reinvestment Program (FRIP)?

TD Ameritrade offers a Dividend Reinvestment Program (DRIP) that will be available to you in place of FRIP. If you're currently enrolled in FRIP, dividends will continue to be reinvested, or pooled, according to your instructions until about one week prior to the transition of your account to TD Ameritrade in February 2018. At that time, FRIP will be discontinued.

Once your account transitions to TD Ameritrade, you can enroll in DRIP. With DRIP, you'll be able to reinvest your cash dividends by purchasing additional shares or fractional shares automatically when the dividend posts to your account. Eligible securities include over 5,000 U.S. listed and NASDAQ stocks, as well as most American Depository Receipts (ADRs).

How do I enroll in TD Ameritrade’s Dividend Reinvestment Program?

Beginning February 26, you can log in to your TD Ameritrade account and go to the Dividend Reinvestment section under My Account.

Under Stock & ETF Dividends or Mutual Fund Distributions, you'll see which of the securities you hold are eligible for DRIP, and you can automatically enroll some or all of the eligible securities you hold, as well as all future stock purchases.
